PAT test basics
Electrical appliances, your obligations.
Taken directly from the HSE website (link here):
"The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require that any electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury is maintained in a safe condition. However, the Regulations do not specify what needs to be done, by whom or how frequently."
Though PAT testing itself is not a legal requirement, it is a means of fulfilling your obligations in the Electricity At Work Regulations 1989 with regards to the safety of electrical appliances on your premises. It is also worth noting that having equipment inspected and tested by a competent person is often a condition of public liability insurance.
Prices start at £50 for the first 20 items tested. Additional items are then priced at £1.50 each. Per item prices are dependent on being unhindered in performing tests i.e. prompt access to equipment, no waiting for access, otherwise a day rate should be agreed which would equate to an average of 150 tests performed a day.
